Karnataka government assures full support to Apple for manufacturing iPhones in India
It was reported that Apple had begun initial production of its IPhone SE smartphones in Karnataka. Following the commencement of production, the Karnataka government has reportedly assured its full support to the company. According to PTI, Karnataka government’s State Industries Minister, R V Deshpande congratulated Apple’s team on the making the project a reality. As reported earlier, Apple is doing a trial run of the Karnataka based Wistron facilities and will be making a small number of iPhone SE’s.
The minister also added that the iPhone SE is a very popular smartphone globally and is a matter of pride for us that future iPhone SE phones will be available with a “Made in India” tag. He also said that choosing Karnataka for its manufacturing facilities goes to show that the state is more business friendly and offers better investment options. More importantly, this will create jobs in the state.
The Apple iPhone SE is currently selling for as low as Rs. 22,000 for its new 32GB variant. The phone was initially announced back in March 2016. It is powered by Apple’s A9 chip and features a 4-inch display with 1136 x 640p display. There is a 12MP primary camera on the phone and 1.2MP front facing camera. It is currently being pitched as Apple’s entry level handset.
